To be able to record vigorous and rapid growth of your plants, you need a light source with a dominant share of blue and white light during the vegetative phase. You can tell what colour the emitted light will have by the colour temperature (given in Kelvin). Blue and white light is described as a higher temperature, approximately from 4000K.
Blue-white light is emitted in sufficient measure by metal halide lamps (MH), with a colour temperature of around 4200 - 6500K, so they are a classic choice for many growers. or the more efficient CMH (LEC) lamps with a ceramic inner tube.
When choosing, you can also follow PAR values expressing the amount of emitted light that plants can actually use for photosynthesis. In this respect, the high-performance double-ended lamp, designated as double ended (DE), is exceptional.
Double-ended lamps are great for ambitious professionals and large spaces. In tents, the light intensity and heat they emit can be too much and may rather harm plants. Most home growers use classic screw-in lamps.
