Product detailed description
A practical four-centimetre propagation cube (40x40x40 mm) made of mineral wool provides young plants in the early stages of development with a healthy, clean environment and a balanced ratio of water and air.
All products from the popular Grodan brand are environmentally friendly and can be used for growing plants in a grow box (indoor), in a greenhouse or outdoors in the garden (outdoor).
Rockwool cubes are manufactured in such a way that in the first stage of production, at temperatures of 1500 °C, basalt wool and calcium form so-called stone lava, and the production process then continues by transforming this lava into thin fibres. In the final stage of the production process, the fibres are pressed into a cube of the required shape and size.
Practical use:
- Sowing seeds
- Rooting seedlings and freshly taken cuttings (clones)
Basalt wool, known as rockwool, is a perfect hydroponic medium:
- It maintains an optimal balance of moisture and air in the root zone, which supports the healthy development of a strongly branched root system, thanks to which the plant absorbs nutrients efficiently and thrives in every respect.
- It allows maximum control over the process of plant nutrition (fertilising).
- It is a hydrophilic material. This means that it excels in its ability to retain water.
- The inert medium contains no nutrients, and therefore does not affect the electrical conductivity of the nutrient solution (EC).
- The high stability of this growing medium means a minimal increase in pH.
- Sterile material means that the plant can develop in an environment that is uncontaminated and that does not encourage pests, mould formation or other factors that could threaten its vitality.
- Rockwool cubes are suitable for almost all hydroponic systems including NFT or, for example, EBB&Flow.
- Grodan propagation cubes are fully recyclable, so repeated use is also an option. However, this must be preceded by cleaning them.
- Grodan products generally bring growers savings in water and fertilisers.
How do you use Grodan propagation cubes?
- The propagation cube (as with everything made of rockwool) is first soaked in lukewarm water at a temperature of approx. 25 °C with adjusted pH, which depending on the needs of the plants being grown ranges between 4.8 - 6.
- Thanks to the cube's excellent absorption properties, its pH soon reaches the same value as the water in which it is soaked.
- The rockwool cube is then left to drain freely so that it gets rid of excess water. Squeezing it out is undesirable.
- The propagation cube fulfils its purpose until you see the plant roots growing out of it, which is the signal to transplant the plant into a larger cube.
