A reduction is a simple solution for cases where you have a ventilator with a smaller flange and wider ducting. We recommend using a reduction in that case because it lowers the noise level of the ducting.
Reducing the ducting (connecting a smaller ducting to a wider ventilator) is possible. However, it's necessary to account for the increase of air resistance in the ducting, which will lead to a significant decrease in effectiveness. For that reason, we don't recommend using a ventilator with a larger flange than the ducting.
