The role of phosphorus in the life of a plant

Phosphorus is a basic building block of DNA and energy molecules (ATP) that drive reactions in plant cells. From nutrient uptake by roots to photosynthesis in leaves - nothing works without the energy from phosphorus. It also plays a role in sugar metabolism and in the formation of strong cell membranes.

How to recognise phosphorus problems

Phosphorus deficiency is shown by slowed growth, purple to violet colouring of stems and veins on the underside of leaves. The root system is weak, short and almost without fine root hairs. Dark brown spots may appear on the leaves.

Excess phosphorus can lead to poor growth because it blocks zinc uptake and disrupts the overall nutrient balance.

You can use BioNova P 20 as a root drench or as quick help in the form of a foliar spray. It is compatible with all substrates and growing systems.

During flowering, supplement P 20 with the base fertiliser Soil Supermix or Hydro Supermix and the booster PK 13-14 for maximum support of flowering.

Increase the dose of P 20 about a week before switching to the flowering stage - you will support a fast and massive onset of flowers. When growing outdoors, P 20 allows you to fine-tune the nutrient profile after analysing the soil and water.
