“600-watt lamps” are the most popular wattage among the discharge lamps we sell. They can illuminate an area of up to 120x120 cm and are absolutely perfect for 1m2. Naturally, they can also illuminate larger spaces, but you will need a quantity corresponding to the size of the tent or room.
Our range includes 600 W sodium (HPS) or metal halide (MH) lamps for the vegetative and flowering stage, as well as lamps with a combined spectrum that you can use throughout the entire growing cycle.
You can also choose between classic screw-in or double-ended (DE, double-ended) lamps. DE-labelled lamps are more suitable for larger spaces, as they produce more intense radiation and also more heat. In a smaller grow tent, their intensity may be too much for the plants and cause stress rather than anything else.
All lamps are from renowned manufacturers, including GIB Lighting, Philips, Osram, Lumatek and many others.
The clear favourites in this category are definitely this Sunkraft HPS and Lumatek MH.
For the lamp to ignite and work as it should, you will need a compatible ballast. A suitable reflector will then ensure that all light rays are directed where they should be - at the plants.
What area will a 600W lamp illuminate?
It is ideal for an area of around 1 m2, that is, a 100x100 cm tent, where it delivers the best results. It can also handle 120x120 cm. For larger spaces, it is better to use more pieces or move up to a higher wattage from the lamp category.
HPS, MH, or CMH - which should you choose?
HPS (sodium) has a strong red spectrum and is a classic for the flowering stage - for example Osram NAV-T Super or GENT Photon+ RedBoom. MH (metal halide) emits blue-white light for the vegetative stage, such as SunMaster Cool 600W MH or SUNKRAFT MH. Want one lamp for the whole cycle? Choose a dual or combined version, for example Superplant Hybrid HPS/MH or Lumatek Dual HPS. You will find CMH (ceramic) in the separate CMH section.
Why do I need a ballast for a lamp?
The lamp will not ignite by itself - it needs a ballast that supplies the correct ignition voltage and then monitors the operating current. For dual lamps of the Lumatek type, it is recommended to pair them with a ballast of the same brand because of the higher output and lower risk of damage.
How high should you hang a 600W lamp?
Because of the high intensity and heat output, keep it at a safe distance from the tops of the plants so you do not burn them. DE (double-ended) models shine even more intensely, so for a small tent it is better to choose the classic version. Fine-tune the exact height according to the plants’ response and the ballast output.
