Product detailed description
A practical large propagation cube (100x100x65 mm) made of mineral wool provides plants in the growth or flowering stage with a healthy, clean environment and a balanced ratio of water and air. The small 27 mm hole in the centre also makes planting easier.
All products from the popular Grodan brand are environmentally friendly and can be used for growing plants in a grow box (indoor), in a greenhouse or outdoors in the garden (outdoor).
Rockwool cubes are manufactured in such a way that, in the first stage of production at temperatures of 1500 °C, so-called stone lava is created from basalt wool and calcium, and the production process then continues by transforming this lava into thin fibres. In the final stage of the production process, the fibres are pressed into a cube of the required shape and size.
Basalt wool, known as rockwool, represents a perfect hydroponic medium:
- It maintains an optimal balance of moisture and air in the root zone, which supports the healthy development of a strongly branched root system, thanks to which the plant absorbs nutrients efficiently and thrives in every respect.
- It allows maximum control over the process of plant nutrition (fertilising).
- It is a hydrophilic material. This means that it excels at retaining water.
- The inert medium contains no nutrients and therefore does not affect the electrical conductivity of the nutrient solution (EC).
- High stability of this growing medium means a minimal increase in pH.
- Sterile material means that the plant can develop in an uncontaminated environment that is not conducive to pests, mould formation or other factors that could threaten its vitality.
- Rockwool cubes are suitable for almost all hydroponic systems including NFT or EBB&Flow.
- Grodan propagation cubes are fully recyclable, so there is also the option of repeated use. However, they must be cleaned first.
- Grodan products generally bring growers water and fertiliser savings.
How do you use Grodan propagation cubes?
- The propagation cube (like everything made of rockwool) is first soaked in lukewarm water at approx. 25 °C with adjusted pH, which depending on the needs of the plants being grown ranges between 4.8 - 6.
- Thanks to the cube's excellent absorption properties, its pH soon reaches the same value as the water in which it is soaked.
- The rockwool cube is then left to drain freely so that it loses excess water. Squeezing it out is undesirable.
- The propagation cube serves its purpose until you see the plant roots growing out of it, which is the signal to transplant the plant into a larger cube.
