Product detailed description

A revolution in your garden: A lasting investment in fertile soil

Imagine a soil amendment that you apply only once, and then it improves the soil, increases yields and saves you the work of watering and fertilizing for hundreds of years. That's exactly what Biochar is - a stable form of carbon that acts as a permanent enhancement for any substrate. It's not just any charcoal, but a high-tech pyrolysis product that's the key to healthier plants and richer harvests.

Key benefits of Biochar

  • A soil sponge for your garden: Biochar works like a sponge due to its extremely porous structure. In light soils, it absorbs and retains water, which it then gradually releases to the roots. This means a constant supply of moisture for your plants even in drier periods and less frequent watering for you.
  • Nutrient magnet: Prevents valuable nutrients from leaching out of the soil. Biochar binds nutrients from fertiliser and gradually makes them available to plants exactly when they need them. The result is more efficient fertilization and stronger, healthier plants.
  • A luxury hotel for microorganisms: Billions of microscopic pores provide the perfect home and refuge for beneficial bacteria and fungi such as mycorrhiza. In this way, you support the living and healthy soil that is the foundation for successful growing.
  • Lasting aeration and structure: in heavy and clay soils, Biochar breaks up compacted structure, aerates the root zone and improves drainage. The plants thus have ideal conditions for strong and healthy root growth.
  • Natural detox and pH adjustment. Your annuals, herbs and vegetables grow in a cleaner and healthier environment.

How exactly does Biochar work?

The secret lies in its incredible structure. Imagine Biochar as a giant coral reef on a microscopic scale. Every inch of it is interwoven with countless passages and chambers. These pores suck up water like a sponge while providing a safe home for an army of beneficial microorganisms that live in symbiosis with your plants.

Unlike compost, Biochar does not decompose. Its structure remains stable in the soil for hundreds if not thousands of years. It is therefore a one-time application with almost infinite benefits for the health of your soil.

Step-by-step instructions for use

For maximum effect, it is crucial to "charge" Biochar before application. Bare Biochar would initially take nutrients from the environment for itself. By charging it, you reverse this process and create a reservoir of nutrients.

  1. Mix Biochar with good quality compost, vermicompost (earthworm dung) or organic fertiliser ina roughly 1:1 ratio. Moisten the mixture and leave it to work for at least 1-2 weeks. During this time, the pores will fill with nutrients and water.
  2. Application to new beds and pots. Stir thoroughly to disperse evenly.
  3. Enhance existing beds: Spread a layer of charged Biochar on the surface and work it gently into the top 10-15 cm of the soil. The ideal rate is 5-10% of the volume of soil you are amending.
  4. Adding Biocharto the compost: Adding Biochar to the compost (approx. 5-10% by volume) will significantly speed up the maturation process, reduce any odour and make the resulting compost much richer.

Why choose our coarse Biochar?

This 0-1 mm grain size fraction is intentionally coarser, which brings specific advantages. It is ideal for maximum aeration of heavy soils, creating optimum drainage in growing containers and ensuring a stable substrate structure in the long term. It is easy to incorporate into the soil and is the perfect choice for establishing raised beds, growing heftier annuals, tomatoes, peppers and much more.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Is Biochar a fertilizer?
No, Biochar itself is not a fertilizer. It acts as a "carrier and reservoir" of nutrients.

How often do I need to apply Biochar?
Only once. Its structure is stable in the soil for generations, so it is a permanent investment in the quality of your soil.

Is Biochar suitable for organic cultivation?
Yes, absolutely. It is a 100% natural product that improves the soil without any chemicals and supports natural soil processes. It is the cornerstone of sustainable gardening.
