Whether you are engaged in indoor cultivation, i.e. at home in a grow tent, or outdoor, that is outside in soil and sunlight, textile/fabric pots offer several advantages when growing medicinal herbs, vegetables and fruit shrubs.

  • Eco-friendly fabric containers allow universal use not only regardless of the type of plants grown, as we mentioned at the very beginning, but also with any growing medium and fertilizers. They work perfectly with coco substrates, soil mixes and will also delight fans of hydroponics, since they have no problem with drip irrigation or certain hydroponic systems, such as EBB & FLOW.
  • In the past, besides the lower price, the advantage of conventional plastic pots was also the ability to choose from an endless variety of shapes and sizes. That is no longer true, because nowadays both here and wherever gardening supplies for plant cultivation are sold, you can find fabric pots in a wide range of designs from many reputable manufacturers. Fancy a fabric pot with handles or without? Small, medium, large, or even huge for a more massive shrub? And what about the color? After all, you will be able to wash it after use and reuse it for another growing cycle, so the choice matters.

  • The greater the oxygen access to the plant roots, the better the yield! This equation applies across growing activities. So to answer the headline question: you can prefer fabric pots practically whenever you care about harvest quality.
  • Another answer is: if you are starting out with growing and water your plants manually. Plastic pots are unforgiving, especially the black ones, if you expose them to sunlight or an intense source of artificial light. Enthusiastic beginner growers, as we have written many times, tend to overwater their first plants. Substrate in a plastic pot stays too wet, is prone to mold or pest occurrence and worse yet, if it's black it attracts light like a magnet and overheates. Fabric pots allow eager beginners to reduce the risk of overwatering to a minimum because they let excess water escape from the root zone and can thus save many a plant and possibly other future endeavors of promising growers in the first days and weeks.
  • Since we mentioned the root system, whose healthy development is the alpha and omega of a successful harvest, we must not forget other proven facts. How else do fabric growing containers help its development?
    • They support the process of optimal root branching.
    • They prevent unwanted circular root circling and tangling.
    • They protect the root system from UV exposure.

  • Thanks to quality fabric we have the overheating risk under control, but you may also be surprised that using (even repeatedly, after washing) fabric pots supports plants during transplanting, when they must cope with significant stress.
  • The same applies if a plant is damaged by frost.
  • Plants planted in a fabric pot do not need to be watered as often as plants in a plastic growing container.
  • We must not forget the increasingly discussed ecological sustainability. This added value of fabric pots itself provides another answer to when and why to use them. In this respect, pots like Root Pouch, but also fabric pots from other brands, which are usually made from recycled materials, stand out. To be fully objective, however, not all fabric pots are 100% biodegradable.
  • Finally, we have purely practical reasons:
    • Significantly easier transport and handling compared to rigid plastic pots. Fabric ones can be simply folded, so they are much more space-efficient for storage.
    • You can forget about degradation of the growing containers.
