TRAFIKA: Complete indoor growing kits for beginners
Do you want to start growing plants under artificial lighting but don't know where to begin? Are you puzzled by the confusing range of supplies for indoor growers? Don't worry — we have prepared discounted indoor growing kits that contain everything you need to get started. In the following article we will walk you step by step through all the essential components of your first growbox.
Indoor growing, that is the cultivation of plants under artificial lighting, is a modern and efficient way to grow a lot of healthy home vegetables, herbs or medicinal plants in a small space. This method allows plants to be grown in a controlled and optimized environment, so they will grow faster and more efficiently than outdoors. With indoor growing you can cultivate year-round, you are not limited by weather whims, and your home garden won't take up more space than a wardrobe. Grow LED set TRAFIKA 150W is suitable for growing herbs, smaller varieties of tomatoes and chili peppers, strawberries, microgreens and medicinal plants.
What you will find in the TRAFIKA 150W set
Trafika Growtent 80 – The grow tent, or growbox, is the cornerstone of your indoor growing setup. These special tents are constructed so that plants in pots or hydroponic systems, a grow light, ventilation and all cabling fit comfortably inside. It is important that the growbox does not let light through, because many plant species are photoperiodic and changes in day length affect their growth and flowering. The Trafika Growtent provides 0.64 square meters of growing space up to a height of 160 centimeters. That is enough to grow roughly nine medium-sized plants.
How to use the Trafika Growtent 80 – Choose a well-ventilated room to place the grow tent where the temperature is stable between 18-25 °C. Avoid locations with direct sunlight, overheated floors, or unventilated damp basements. Remember that you will need a power source for grow lights, fans and other equipment.
Trafika LED panel 150W – Grow lights replace natural sunlight in indoor growing, which is the primary energy source for photosynthesis. The more intense the radiation, the more energy you deliver to the plants and the greater the potential yield.
How to use the Trafika LED panel 150W – Medium-intensity LED fixtures are most suitable for growing herbs, tomatoes, chili peppers, salads, microgreens or for starting seedlings for outdoor planting. Remember that small seedlings need less intense light. During germination raise the panel 60–80 centimeters above the substrate. Once the plants have grown, you can illuminate them from a distance of 40–60 cm from the tops.
Garden High PRO fan – The exhaust fan is used to remove warm and humid air from the growing space. Fresh air is forced into the growbox through purpose-built vents. Some growers also use a fan for intake, but that is usually only necessary for larger tents and growrooms.
How to install the Garden High PRO fan – Place the exhaust fan inside the tent on the top bars so there is room to attach an air filter. Finally, connect the air ducting to the fan outlet and route it out of the tent through the top opening.
Airontek odor filter – Plants grown under artificial lighting can produce very intense scents that easily spread throughout an apartment. A quality odor filter with long service life is essential for removing unwanted smells from the growbox.
How to install the odor filter – Attach the odor filter to the exhaust fan using cable ties so that the air drawn in flows through the filter (before the fan). Replace the filter with a new one every three to four grow cycles or once a year.
Plant pots with trays – Plastic or fabric pots are more suitable for indoor growing than terracotta or ceramic ones. The advantage of plastic pots is their low price, light weight and the possibility of repeated use.
Mechanical timer switch – A timer switch is used to automate lighting in the growbox and simulate day and night cycles.
How to set the timer switch – The length of light exposure depends on the species and the age of the plants. For photoperiodic species it is important to switch to flowering once the plants have reached the desired height and mass.
Thermometer and hygrometer Airontek Thermo-Hygro Maxmin – Monitoring temperature and humidity is essential for indoor growing. For most plant species the temperature in the growing space should not fall below 16 °C or exceed 28 °C. Optimal air humidity ranges between 40–80% depending on the age of the plants. Sprouts and seedlings need higher humidity, while flowering plants or those nearing harvest prefer drier conditions to help prevent mold outbreaks.
How to install the thermometer with hygrometer and probe – Place the thermometer with hygrometer inside the growing space at the level of the plant tops in an accessible spot. With the remote probe you can measure either the air temperature around the roots (near the ground) or outside the tent.
You are now ready to start growing. With indoor growing you can use classic soil, but you can also use modern growing substrates such as coco, rockwool or perlite. If you are not sure which medium to choose, read our Guide to growing substrates. Indoor-grown plants also need fertilizers to supply enough nutrients so they can make full use of the energy from artificial lighting for growth. You can use a full range of effective fertilizers, from mineral to fully organic, depending on the growing method you choose.
