ROOT!T for taking and propagating cuttings

Cutting off part of a plant when taking cuttings is extremely stressful both for the mother plant and for the resulting cutting. There's no point pretending otherwise. That's why, as a grower, it's wise to work with the plant's appropriate physiological response to this shock:

• Experts believe that plant aging is the result of two substances produced in response to stress. They are:
  • Abscisic acid (ABA): a vital plant hormone produced by the plant, for example, as a reaction to a sudden change in the surrounding environment. For instance, with the arrival of a cold front, ABA is the initiating signal that triggers changes to protect leaves from the cold.
  • Ethylene (ethylene): it has long been known that ethylene accelerates plant maturation when plants are exposed to stress. Ethylene's function in such cases is to bring the plant to a level of sufficient maturity, meaning viability and self-sufficiency independent of the mother plant. A nice example is cut flowers or ripening fruit.
• If those two substances are present in the plant, it is evidence of a lack of sugar and oxygen, which is a consequence of stress-disrupted translocation processes.
• ROOT!T Cutting Mist is a special cloning spray that we recommend applying to the mother plant two to three days before taking cuttings, because it helps maintain sugar production in the leaves at normal levels. Keeping these levels closer to normal greatly helps reduce stress and the associated excessive production of ABA and ethylene.
